MAPs wanted for study on conceptualizations of pedophilia

“A Social Constructionist Approach to Paedophilia, Child Sexual Abuse and Relevant Preventative Policy-Making: A Comparison between the USA, the UK and Germany”

My name is Maria Sklavou and I am doing my PhD at the University of Sheffield in the UK. My research is looking into conceptualizations of paedophilia, child sexual abuse and relevant implications for policy-making in the USA, the UK and Germany. This study hopes to challenge the stigmatizing narratives about paedophilia and child sexual abuse on a comparative level.

I am looking for MAPs willing to participate in this research. Participants should:
– be over 18 years of age;
– be minor attracted persons, and
– be involved in a relevant organization (such as B4U-ACT) and/ or have experience with doing therapy in relation to their attraction.

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to keep a diary. The diary can be written or audio-recorded, depending on what you prefer. I will give you some topics that I would like you to consider when keeping your diary: these will be relevant to your attraction and your experiences with therapy. However, you will also be able to add things that you find relevant and important.

The whole process has 3 phases and spans across 3 weeks (1 phase per week), but it is not time-intensive. Each week, you will only have to make one diary entry (but it can be more frequent, if you want to). I understand that you may be very busy and have other priorities, so the timeframe will be flexible and adjustable to your schedule. The diaries are intended to give you the opportunity to express yourselves freely and without judgement. Anything you write or record will be kept completely confidential.

If you are interested in participating, please get in touch with me at: msklavou1@sheffield.ac.uk. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for your time!
